AI and the New Wave of Technology Open Growth Opportunities for Vietnam’s Electronics Industry

The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), data centers, and semiconductor technology is creating new demands for the electronics industry while opening up a new growth cycle for Vietnamese enterprises.

According to the Vietnam Electronics Industries Association (VEIA), electronics export turnover is forecast to increase 15–20% in 2026, thanks to the recovery of global technology demand and the development pace of AI-related fields. In the early months of the year, the electronics sector continues to contribute over 30% of Vietnam’s total export turnover.

AI Drives Demand for High Technology

AI is not only changing how businesses apply technology but also driving significant demand for data infrastructure, high-performance computing devices, memory, electronic components, and smart devices. The development of data centers and semiconductors is also becoming a critical driver for the electronics ecosystem.

In parallel, the trend of global supply chain diversification is creating additional opportunities for Vietnam to attract investment and expand production capacity in the electronics sector.

From Production Expansion to Value Enhancement in the Supply Chain

Growth opportunities also come with new requirements. Vietnamese electronics enterprises need to enhance technological capabilities, develop supporting industries, and increase localization rates to participate more deeply in the global supply chain.

Additionally, R&D, digital transformation, smart factories, and AI applications in manufacturing are considered important directions for improving productivity and competitiveness. Requirements for traceability, emission reduction, and ESG standards are also increasingly becoming critical factors as enterprises target international markets.

Vietnam accelerates the development of its digital technology industry

Vietnam’s digital technology industry continues to record strong growth, highlighting the country’s accelerating digital transformation and increasing demand for technology infrastructure.

According to Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology, digital technology industry revenue in August 2026 was estimated at VND 680.6 trillion, up 36% year-on-year. Meanwhile, exports of digital technology products and goods reached approximately USD 22.4 billion, representing a 41% increase compared with the same period in 2025.

The country is also making progress in digital infrastructure. By mid-August, the national data integration and sharing platform (NDXP) had recorded 4.7 billion transactions, with all 63 provinces and centrally governed cities connected for data sharing. Vietnam’s IPv6 adoption rate reached 66%, ranking second in Southeast Asia and seventh globally.

Looking ahead, the Ministry of Science and Technology is prioritising the development of strategic technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), digital infrastructure, semiconductor industry and national digital platforms. Investment in telecommunications infrastructure in underserved areas is also being promoted to expand connectivity nationwide.

These developments underscore Vietnam’s growing digital technology ecosystem and its ambition to strengthen domestic technology capabilities, expand digital infrastructure and enhance its position in the global technology value chain.
